BEGIN:VCALENDAR VERSION:2.0 PRODID:-/-/EN BEGIN:VEVENT SUMMARY:Borde Hill UID:139 DESCRIPTION:Join us for a visit to Borde Hill where Jay Goddard is the fifth generation to look after a garden and parkland, established from 1893 by her great great grandfather -  Colonel Stephenson R Clarke.\n\nAs Jay herself says she has “big shoes to fill”.  There is a huge breadth to the collection of plants and a deep archive of over 75,000 records.  Jay says the focus of her parents (winners of the RHS Veitch award) was to make the gardens attractive all year round and they enhanced the series of different rooms, including a Rose garden and Italian garden.\n\nAs the current generation of custodians, Jay’s new project is the National Heritage Lottery funded campaign “reinventing Borde Hill” focusing  on sustainability, community, outdoor learning and wellbeing in the heritage listed South Park. \n\nItinerary \n\n10.30 Meet time Top of the car park outside the entrance building\n\nParking in the main car park where there are disabled spaces at the top\n\nCoffee on arrival. \n\n11am We’ll have a tour of the garden with Mr Clarke.\n\nThe tour will take about 1½ hours and will give the opportunity to attendees to view the 13 garden rooms ranging from the Azalea Ring, Rose Garden, Italian Garden, Paradise Walk and many more. There’s such a great variety of plants from Champion trees, rare shrubs collected by the Great Plant Collectors, and perennials. Highlights for April are magnolias, camellias and spring bulbs.\n\nLunch.  Please bring a packed lunch and Borde Hill will serve tea/coffee/cake\n\nPost lunch -  see some of the archive material and hear about their two big projects with the conversion of the Restaurant and NLHF grant ‘Reinventing Borde Hill project.
