For the practical book that focuses on the nuts and bolts of a particular aspect of gardening, including helpful tips, step-by-step explanations, lists, proven methods and well explained, clear advice. Any book covering the practical aspects of gardening, horticulture or the horticultural trade and garden retail industry is eligible and books with ‘How To…’, ‘Guide’, ‘Handbook’ or similar in their title or on their front cover should be entered in this category.

Revised, re-published or updated books are not eligible for entry, unless the entrant can clearly demonstrate, with proof, that more than 25% of the material is new to the book. Otherwise all entries must have been published on or between Friday, 8th September 2023 and Thursday, 29th August 2024, singly or within a series.

Its subject matter must be horticulturally accurate and the writing engaging. The winning book's layout will be well presented; it will have a good cover and well-organised index; its underlying structure will be well thought out. Every aspect of its content must be helpful and practical, well-explained and clear including photos and their captions as well as the main text.

Please note that this award is only for the writer of the book, not the photographer. Only the writer’s name will appear in the shortlist and on the winner’s award.

Entry is open to all and is free to GMG members; a fee of £60 is applicable to non-member entrants (to cover postage/admin).

Authors may only make one entry into this category. Publishers may submit multiple books, but even if the publisher is a member of the GMG, only one entry will be free of charge.

This entry form must be complete by Thursday, 29th August 2024 and hard copies of the nominated book must arrive before Thursday, 5th September 2024.
