Biography

Born in England, I grew up with a trowel in her hand. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1996 I worked at a leading nursery before establishing Le Jardinet in 2006. Whilst initially specializing in custom container gardens, I now apply that same attention to detail by designing functional and artistic landscapes. I am co-author of two popular books on foliage-driven design: Gardening with Foliage First and Fine Foliage, while my latest book (as sole author) is Deer-Resistant Design (Timber Press). When not designing gardens or writing about them, I am usually teaching workshops across the United States and beyond, as well as offering a number of popular online courses. Whether on the stage or the page, my aim is always to inspire, educate and share the fun of gardening with my audience.

Additional Interests

As a landscape designer, award-winning author, and international speaker I have the knowledge, enthusiasm, personal connections, and detailed, organizational skills that are needed to put together tours of inspirational gardens, historical sites, and cultural experiences. It is therefore with great excitement that I now also offer small group tours to England, South Africa, New Zealand, and the United States.
