Biography

Mark inspires and teaches people who don't have gardens to grow vegetables, salads, herbs and fruit in containers on their balcony, patio, rooftop or front yard.  He has shown how it's possible to grow a LOT of food in a small space - enough to make a significant difference to what you eat. Mark writes a blog and offers talks, workshops and online courses in all aspects of container gardening and running wormeries. His work has featured on BBC TV and Radio (including Gardener's Question Time, twice) and in the Guardian and Telegraph. His book, the Vertical Veg Guide to Container Gardening, won the 2023 Garden Media Guild Award for Best Practical Gardening Book.

Additional Interests

Mark is excited by the potential of growing at home in the city: how, even a small space like a balcony, can help us eat better, feel more connected to our local community, interact more with nature, and live with a lighter footprint.  He also loves making top quality worm compost from his kitchen waste!
