Denise Bates is Group Publishing Director at Quarto, London, overseeing the publishing of the adult imprints including Frances Lincoln. Frances Lincoln is the home of gardening authors and organisations ranging from Advolly Richmond, Tim Richardson, Kew and the RHS to David Domoney and Caroline Quentin, and is honoured to be the publisher of this year’s Garden Media Guild’s Gardening Book of the Year, What Makes a Garden by Jinny Blom. Prior to her current position, Denise held similar roles in lifestyle publishing at Octopus/Hachette, HarperCollins and Ebury/Random House. She is very much not an expert gardener but does know a few things about publishing successful gardening books.
She will talk about what the publishing industry is currently looking for in gardening books, how to approach a publisher, whether you need an agent, what you should write before you can expect an offer and any other questions you may have. You will be able to ask questions in the webinar, but we would also appreciate questions in advance. Email them to co-chair-alexandra@gardenmediaguild.co.uk.
