GMG Visit to the East Midlands

Download Event to Calendar

This is a visit to two delightful but different East Midlands gardens.

Our first stop will be Oak Tree House at South Kilworth in Leicestershire. This is a two-thirds of an acre country garden full of colour, with a formal design softened by cottage-style planting. There are large herbaceous borders, vegetable plots, a pond and colour-themed borders and sculptures. In June, the collection of roses and clematis should be looking spectacular.

Our visit will start at 10am with tea and coffee, followed by a tour with owner Pam Shave. Pam is County Organiser for the Leicestershire NGS, so will also be able to give us the lowdown on other gardens worth writing about/photographing in the area.

After a light lunch, kindly provided by Pam, we will head for Coton Manor in Northamptonshire, to arrive at 2pm. This peaceful 10-acre garden, surrounding a 17th century manor house, is made up of a series of distinctive smaller gardens enhanced by flowing streams, fountains and ponds. Beyond the confines of the garden, there is a colourful wildflower meadow. Owner Susie Pasley-Tiler will take us on a tour of the garden and our visit should end at about 4pm.

There are only 25 places available on this trip, so depending on demand it may not be possible to bring a guest. You are welcome to indicate if you would like to come with a guest and we will confirm whether there’s space nearer the time.

The visit is free to GMG members and there are no restrictions on photography. To book your place, please e-mail us as soon as possible.
