GMG Visit to Exbury Gardens

Download Event to Calendar

This exciting GMG visit is to one of Britain’s great gardens. The 200-acre garden has a world-famous collection of camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons, so expect a blaze of vibrant colour when we visit. Exbury is one of the world's finest woodland gardens. This is a particularly exciting year to visit, as Exbury is celebrating its centenary in 2019.

Our visit will start at 10.30am (refreshments from 10am) and we will be shown round Exbury by head gardener Thomas Clarke, Marie-Louise Agius, and rhododendron expert and chairman of the Exbury Garden Trust, Lionel de Rothschild. David Millais from Millais Nurseries will also be on hand to answer questions about the RHS Chelsea Exhibit and a project to conserve Exbury's rare rhododendrons.

Highlights of the garden include Home Wood, with its superb display of azaleas; Yard Wood, which has a fine collection of rhododendrons from the USA; and Witcher's Wood, which has many beautiful ornamental trees. After lunch, which Exbury is kindly providing for us, we will take a 20-minute journey on the steam train which runs one and a half miles through the garden. The visit will end mid-afternoon.

This visit is free to GMG members; there is a £15 charge for non-members. There are no restrictions on photography.

To book your place on this exciting visit, please e-mail us as soon as possible.
