GMG Visit to Waterperry Gardens and Adwell House

Download Event to Calendar

We have an exciting visit to two very different Oxfordshire gardens on 19 September.

First off is Waterperry Gardens near Wheatley, once a School of Horticulture for Ladies and now a renowned eight-acre ornamental garden. Waterperry is most famous for its superb herbaceous borders (pictured), which should be looking fantastic in September when the asters are in full flower. Our visit will start at 10.30am with tea and coffee, followed by a guided tour of the garden.

After lunch, we will head for Adwell House near Thame. The estate, which is rarely open to the public, is owned by the Birch-Reynardson family and may look familiar to Midsomer Murder fans, since it has been used several times as a location for the series. There are 15 acres of parkland, with eight lakes and a waterfall, and four acres of garden, which include beautiful mixed borders and a walled garden (pictured). We'll be shown around by Head Gardener, Colin Roberts, who is passionate about salvias and has a collection of more than 75 of them in the garden. Our visit will end at around 3.30-4pm.

Please note that lunch is not included, but Waterperry has a good cafe and there are many pubs locally.

This visit is free to GMG members, with a £10 charge for non-members, payable on the day. We are asked not to take any photos of Adwell House itself, but there are no restrictions on photographs in the garden, or anywhere at Waterperry.

To book your place on this exciting visit, please contact Mandy @ GMG Admin as soon as possible.
