Those of you who love unusual plants won’t want to miss this visit to Crug Farm Plants; please note the date change from the date advertised in the latest GMG News.
On the edge of Snowdonia, near Caernarfon in North Wales, this is one of Britain’s most celebrated nurseries. After Dan Pearson visited he wrote: "Every second plant is new to me .... it’s like stepping into another world."
The nursery is run by plant hunters Sue and Bleddyn Wynn-Jones, who have undertaken more than 50 plant-hunting expeditions across the globe. This intrepid duo have scaled mountains and volcanoes and even dodged bandits in order to seek out rare and often endangered plants, working closely with government agencies and botanic gardens. The nursery specialises in unusual herbaceous perennials, climbers, trees and shrubs.
Our visit starts at 11am with coffee and an introduction from Sue and Bleddyn. Then we will be given a tour of the Wynn-Jones’ private three-acre garden, followed by a complimentary light lunch, which they are kindly providing. After lunch we will explore the nursery fields, where the nursery’s stock is grown, and have a look in the tunnels - 20 acres in all.
There is a great deal to see, but if you want to squeeze in another garden on the same day, Sue and Bleddyn recommend The Hidden Gardens of Plas Cadnant in Anglesey.
This visit is free to GMG members; there is a £10 charge for non-members, payable directly to the garden. There are no restrictions on photography.
Places are strictly limited, so please contact Mandy @ GMG Admin as soon as possible to book your place.
