GMG Visit to Common Farm Flowers and Homeacres

Download Event to Calendar

We have an action-packed day combining culture, flowers and vegetables with this visit to Somerset!

First off, if you're there early enough, you can visit Hauser & Wirth, the world renowned gallery and arts centre, whose grounds include a kitchen garden and a large perennial meadow designed by Piet Oudolf. Entry to the gallery and garden is free, and it opens at 9.30am.

At 11am, we are expected at Common Farm Flowers, a few minutes away. This is the business started in 2010 by former fashion journalist Georgie Newbery, who wanted to produce home-grown flowers for the British market. Georgie – who has written several books on cut flowers - will take us round the farm and tell us how it has grown into a thriving business producing 250,000 stems a year for her beautiful bouquets. After coffee and cake, she will give us a short flower-arranging demonstration.

There will then be time for lunch in a local pub for those who want it, and then we're off to Homeacres, home of No-Dig guru Charles Dowding, which is about 15 minutes away. Author of nine books, Charles is a true pioneer in his field and he will show us round his four-acre garden, brimming with fruits and vegetables. This visit is free to GMG members; there is a £10 charge for non-members. There are no restrictions on photography at Common Farm Flowers or Homeacres, but photographers should contact Hauser & Wirth separately to get permission.
