GMG Visit to Hever Castle

Download Event to Calendar

We are delighted to say that we have been invited to visit Hever Castle and Gardens in Kent – the historic childhood home of Anne Boleyn, for a tour of the 'Dazzling Daffodils' with head gardener Neil Miller.

We will be allowed access to Anne Boleyn's Orchard (which is usually closed to visitors) to take a closer look at the new daffodils that have been planted there to augment the already impressively varied display. The new bulbs have been selected and provided by bulb legend Johnny Walkers of Walkers Bulbs, who is going for his 25th consecutive RHS Chelsea Gold Medal in 2018. Johnny's choice of daffodil bulbs is far-ranging and Anne Boleyn's Orchard will feature many unusual cultivars.

Guild members will also be welcomed into the Tudor Garden, as well as the ornate Italian Garden, designed and built by American multi-millionaire William Waldorf Astor at the turn of the 20th century. The Italian Garden contains Astor's magnificent statuary collection, which includes pieces more than 2,000 years old. Depending on the weather, some of Hever's thousands of tulips may already be in flower.

If there's time, GMG members can explore the Two Sisters' Lawn and Pond (once home to the Hever Castle hermit!), the Blue Corner, and try out the famous maze. Hever is generously providing a complimentary lunch for us, which will be served in the dining room of the Anne Boleyn Wing, overlooking the daffodil display.

Our visit will start at 10.30am and end at around 3pm. If you are coming by train, the nearest station is Edenbridge Town.

There are no restrictions on photography.

The visit is free to GMG members, with a £10 charge for non-members, payable on the day directly to the garden.
