GMG Visit to The Salutation Gardens

Download Event to Calendar

We have an exciting visit lined up on Wednesday October 4 to The Salutation gardens in Sandwich, Kent.

Designed in 1912 by Lutyens, the 3.7 acres of garden are divided into a series of symmetrical rooms, giving the effect of endlessly unfolding space, with surprises around every corner. Under the guidance of Head Gardener, Steve Edney, the reputation of The Salutation has been steadily growing, and it is especially well known for its late summer borders and its dahlias, which should be looking wonderful in early October.

The garden has the largest private collection of dark-leaved dahlias in the UK, with more than 100 named varieties, and there is also a large collection of plectranthus.

Our visit will start at 10.30am and Steve will give us a guided tour of the gardens and tell us how it survived a devastating flood in 2013 when the River Stour burst its banks. We will then enjoy a complimentary lunch, and we expect the visit to finish at around 3pm.

The Salutation was once owned by Steph and Dom of Gogglebox fame, but is now a Grade I listed boutique hotel, and if you want to stay overnight on October 3 there are some rooms available to GMG members at a 50% price reduction.

There are no restrictions on photography. The visit is free to GMG members; there is a £10 charge (payable direct to the garden) for non-members.

If you would like to come, please contact GMG Admin as soon as possible.
