If you love peonies (and who doesn't?), don't miss our GMG visit to historic Penshurst Place and Gardens in Kent. The magnificent house, which was used as a location for Wolf Hall and The Princess Bride, dates from 1341, while the 48 acres of grounds includes 11 acres of formal gardens and a mile of yew hedging. Head gardener Cory Furnmoor will take us on a tour of the 16th century Italian garden, the heraldic garden, the Lanning Roper border, the rose garden and the Jubilee border. The highlight will surely be the extraordinary peony border, which is more than 300 feet long and should be at its best in late May.
Our trip will star at 10.30am with complimentary tea and cake and, if her schedule allows, a chat with Viscountess De L'Isle, whose family owns the estate. The tour of the garden will take approximately 90 minutes and our visit will end at about 1pm. There are no restrictions on photography.
The visit is free to GMG members, with a £10 charge for non-members.
Places are limited, so if you would like to come, please contact GMG Admin as soon as possible.
If you are coming by train, the nearest station is Tunbridge Wells; Penshurst Place is a seven mile taxi ride from the station.
