GMG Visit to Ulting Wick

Download Event to Calendar

We are delighted that we have arranged a visit for GMG members to Ulting Wick in Essex

This lovely 11-acre garden in the Chelmer Valley has been created over the past 15 years by Philippa and Bryan Burrough, and has been featured in numerous magazines and books.

The garden is centred around three listed black Essex barns and a 17th century farmhouse, and is renowned for its colourful and exuberant planting. It is regularly listed as one of the UK's top spring gardens, but is equally spectacular in late summer. Philippa describes the planting as 'Dixteresque', and there are exotic displays of dahlias, bananas, grasses, sunflowers and other annuals for plenty of late summer interest.

Our visit will start at 11am and Philippa will give us a guided tour of the garden and talk about its development, followed by a light lunch, which she has generously offered to provide for us.

There are no restrictions on photography.

For those coming by train, the nearest station is Hatfield Peverel; trains take 40 minutes from London Liverpool Street, and the garden is a short taxi ride from the station. Those coming by car might want to combine this visit with a trip to RHS Garden Hyde Hall, which is 20 minutes away, or Beth Chatto's garden, which is a drive of about 40 minutes.

Places are limited, so if you would like to come, please contact GMG Admin as soon as possible.

The visit is free for GMG members, £15 for non-members. Lunch is included.
