We are delighted to announce that on Thursday 27 July we have a GMG visit to West Dean Gardens in West Sussex. Nestled at the foot of the South Downs, this 19th century garden has been wonderfully restored over the past 26 years by husband and wife team Sarah Wain and Jim Buckland. Features include the pergola, designed by Harold Peto; the sunken garden; the kitchen garden; the walled fruit garden; the wild gardens, and 13 magnificent Victorian glasshouses, packed with unusual tender plants. West Dean is especially well known for its hot borders, which will be looking spectacular by the end of July.
Our visit will start at 10.30am, when Sarah will give us a tour of the gardens and tell us about the behind-the-scenes running of West Dean while sharing some of her gardening secrets with us. After a complimentary light lunch in the cafe, we are free to explore the 50-acre arboretum or wander the parkland walk. There are no restrictions on photography.
If you are coming by train the nearest station is Chichester, which is a few miles away from West Dean. This visit is free to GMG members, with a £10 charge for non-members.
If you would like to come, please contact GMG Admin as soon as possible.
